Winter Warlock, Part 1

Foursaken Feature Archive

Hello everyone, and welcome to another Foursaken Feature. You may remember a few weeks ago, when I introduced the fey spell source for 4th edition sorcerers, as well as a number of new powers designed for sorcerers using that spell source. Well, it was just so nice, I did it twice (or, you know, something that sounds less like it belongs in the 1950’s…). This week marks the beginning of a two-part series devoted to none other than…the winter pact warlock.

Though I’ll admit that a few jokes were tossed around the office about the
“winter warlock,” this is a fun and flavorful new pact (plus powers) designed to give a little more winter flavor for warlocks. It’s not just ice magic (though there’s a good deal of that): I tried to branch out to some of the other winter-related themes as well, including foraging and hibernating, etc., instead of just raw ice damage.

Today’s article introduces the winter pact’s pact boon, as well as winter warlock powers up to level 10. The remaining powers will be included right here, not next week (which is a theme week devoted to, of all things, elves), but the week after, on the 30th of December.

Winter Pact

You have made a pact with one of the primal forces of winter: your patron may be one of the powerful lords or ladies of the Winter Court of the fey, or it may be a deity or spirit closely tied to the season of winter or some aspect of it, such as a deity of ice and cold, or even one of hunger and want.
Ice Spear: You know the ice spear at-will spell.
Icy Heart: When an enemy under your Warlock’s Curse is reduced to 0 hit points or fewer, you gain a +2 bonus to all defenses until the end of your next turn.
