From the Workshop Archive

Welcome again to From the Workshop, where we showcase a bevy of new magic items, monsters and even alternate class features. This week I have the snow kami for Ice Week. You can find more kami in the Book of Kami, which you can find in our downloads.

Snow Kami

Rising up out of the snow is a vaguely masculine form, though its features are blank. Its body is made mostly of ice and snow, though it also contains frozen earth. Circling the creature are a number of small ice crystals.

Lesser Snow Kami

Special Abilities

Cold (Ex): A snow kami's body generates intense cold, dealing 1d6 points of damage with its touch. Creatures attacking a snow kami with unarmed strikes or natural weapons take this same cold damage each time one of their attacks hits.

Icy Barrage (Ex): As a free action once every 1d4+1 rounds, a snow kami can launch a barrage of razor-sharp shards of ice from its body in a 10-foot burst. All creatures caught within this area take 2d6 points of slashing damage and 1d6 points of cold damage (Reflex DC 15 halves). The save DC is Constitution-based.

Icy Destruction (Ex): When reduced to 0 hit points, a snow kami explodes in a shower of snow and jagged shards of ice. All creatures within a 10-foot burst take 2d6 points of slashing damage and 1d6 points of cold damage; a DC 15 Reflex save halves the damage. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Blessings: While in spiritual form, a snow kami grants the following effects:

Each creature within a snow kami’s territory gains a bonus to all Survival checks equal to ½ the snow kami’s hit dice.

Cold weather in a snow kami’s territory is more intense, and it’s always snowing. When it would normally snow, it snows heavily instead. When it would snow heavily, it rains sleet instead. When it would rain sleet, it hails instead. When it hails, double the chance of hail being large enough to deal lethal damage and increase the damage to 1d6 points of damage.

Each creature within the snow kami’s territory is affected as though by the spell endure elements.

Ecology:

Snow kami can be found in cold areas where it snows regularly. Sometimes they can be found in other areas but only during the cold winter months.

Some scholars believe that snow kami are created by the grit and determination needed to survive in these frozen lands.

Snow kami dislike fire and will go out of their way to prevent fires from being lit in their territory. At first they just go after the fires, but will attack the person making fires if he or she tries to light another fire.

Unlike most kami, snow kami tend to create a spire of ice that they use as their dwelling.
