Infernal Adept

July 22nd, 2011

From the Workshop Archive

Welcome again to From the Workshop, where we showcase a bevy of new magic items, monsters and even alternate class features. Since this week is Devil Week, I thought I would make a dragon disciple-esque prestige class for infernal spellcasters.

Infernal Adept
Role: With the magic of a spellcasting class at their disposal, infernal adepts can assume the typical role of a magic-user, hampering the movement of the enemy and hurling damage-dealing spells at their opponents.
Alignment: Infernal adepts can be of any alignment, although they tend to be more lawful than chaotic.
Hit Die: d10

Requirements
To qualify to become an infernal adept, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Race: Any non-outsider.
Skills: Knowledge (the Planes) 5 ranks.
Languages: Infernal.
Spells: Ability to cast 1st-level arcane spells without preparation. If the character has sorcerer levels, she must have the infernal bloodline. If the character gains levels of sorcerer after taking this class, she must take the infernal bloodline.

Class Skills
The infernal adept's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Diplomacy (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Fly (Dex), Knowledge (all skills taken individually) (Int), Perception (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int).
Skill Ranks at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Infernal Adept Table

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the infernal adept prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Infernal adepts gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Spells per Day: At the indicated levels, an infernal adept gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in an arcane spellcasting class she belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if she is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming an internal adept, she must decide to which class she adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Infernal Pact: An infernal adept adds her level to her sorcerer levels when determining the powers gained from her bloodline. If the infernal adept does not have levels of sorcerer, she instead gains bloodline powers of the infernal bloodline, using her infernal adept level as her sorcerer level to determine the bonuses gained. This ability does not grant bonus spells to a sorcerer unless she possesses spell slots of an appropriate level. Such bonus spells are automatically granted if the sorcerer gains spell slots of the spell's level.

Profane Defense (Ex): At 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th level, an infernal adept gains a profane bonus to her AC, as indicated on Table: Infernal Adept. These profane bonuses stack.

Ability Boost (Ex): As an infernal adept gains levels in this prestige class, her ability scores increase as noted on Table: Infernal Adept. These increases stack and are gained as if through level advancement.

Bloodline Feat: Upon reaching 2nd level, and every three levels thereafter, an infernal adept receives one bonus feat, chosen from the infernal bloodline's bonus feat list.

Lasting Corruption (Sp): At 2nd level, whenever the infernal adept uses her corrupting touch bloodline power, the target is shaken for a number of rounds equal to her effective sorcerer level instead of half her sorcerer level.

Hellfire (Sp): At 3rd level, an infernal adept gains the hellfire bloodline power, even if her level does not yet grant that power. Once her level is high enough to grant this ability through the bloodline, the infernal adept gains an additional use of her hellfire each day.

Infernal Senses (Ex): At 5th level, the infernal adept gains darkvision 60 feet and she can see perfectly in darkness of any kind, even that created by a deeper darkness spell. This darkvision increases to 120 feet when she gains the power of the pit bloodline power.

Infernal Summoning (Su): At 7th level, an infernal adept gains the ability to summon infernal allies. Once per day she can summon one erinyes or 1d6 lemures. Creatures summoned with this ability persist for 1 hour. At 10th level, an infernal adept can use this ability twice per day and can now summon a bone devil in addition to the previous devils she could already summon.

Wings (Su): At 9th level, an infernal adept gains the on dark wings bloodline power, even if her level does not yet grant that power. Once her level is high enough to grant this ability through the bloodline, the infernal adept's fly speed increases to 90 feet.
