From the Workshop Archive

Hello everyone, and welcome to another exciting edition of From the Workshop, where we bring you great new material to improve your game.  This week while I was playing with my monk character, I found myself thinking “Wow, how great are magic swords,” and so I've decided to create a couple of cool specific swords for you guys.  If you like these I would encourage you to check out (for a mere two dollars and change) The Ebon Vault: Swords of Legend for more great magic swords, including a slew of specific swords with impressive back stories.

Blade of Evernight

This shortsword is 3 feet long from point to pommel and features a midnight black, gently serrated steel blade carved with a moon and stars motif.  The sword was forged ages ago by a dwarven sorcerer exiled from his clansmen for the practice of wicked magic.  Forced to live his life underground in perpetual darkness, the sorcerer crafted the blade of evernight to wreak vengeance on the other dwarves, using its magic to blind them and force them to live alone in the darkness.  The sorcerer’s plan failed, however, and the mighty dwarven hero Grimin slew the sorcerer and captured the blade.  Unimpressed with the treacherous magics of the sword, Grimin gifted it to human by the name of Kennik in exchange for thwarting an assassination attempt years later.  Kennik, himself an assassin belonging to a rival guild, put the blade to great use.  The guild has since replicated the blade and rare black market copies have begun to pop up.

Winter's Kiss

A longsword the color of winter snow, winter's kiss is 47 inches long and bears numerous runes denoting a prayer for protection and good fortune in the flowing script of the elves.  The blade was forged for the hero Elisis by the high wizard of a clan of snow elves living in a secluded pass deep in the far north.  Elisis was a great swordswoman and a champion of the snow elven people, defending her home for hundreds of years, as well as a well-traveled and seasoned adventurer.  The blade was given to her for her service in single-handedly slaying a tribe of fire giants encroaching on the elves’ land and was put to use for another hundred and fifty years before her retirement.  After settling down, Elisis threw the sword into a swift-running river, hoping that one day a new hero would claim the sword.  Instead, a merchant by the name of Uster came upon the sword while fording the river, and swiftly proceeded to make copies.  The sword became a bestseller among adventurers until Elisis came out of retirement to put a stop to his replication.
