Welcome again to Masters and Minions, where I strive to give you interesting NPCs and encounters that can be placed easily into your game. As you all should know by now, this week is Extraplanar Week, so I decided on making an extraplanar bounty hunter/hitman for your PCs to go up against.

You should note that due to the cost of her having two gatecutting weapons, she would probably be considered to be over-treasured.

After running afoul of a powerful planar enemy (knowingly or unknowingly), the PCs now have a hit on one or more of their group. The hitman who has been hired to get the job done is Xaelin Warpblade, a tiefling ranger known for her use of twin gatecutting celestial steel scimitars.

You can find the gatecutting special ability and the celestial steel special material in Into the Armory (available for free download).

Xaelin’s Tactics
Xaelin starts the fight off by casting instant enemy on her target if he isn’t already one of her favored enemies; otherwise she designates her target as her quarry. If she manages to get a critical hit on her target, she attempts to planeshift both him and herself to a neutral- or evil-aligned outer plane. If she fails to planeshift him, she falls back and opens a portal to the abyss, fleeing into it.

Fiendish Sorcery (Ex)
Tiefling sorcerers with the Abyssal or Infernal bloodline treat their Charisma score as 2 points higher for all sorcerer class abilities.

Master Gatecutter (Su)
Whenever Xaelin uses her sword’s ability to planeshift a creature she critically hits, she can choose to travel with the planeshifted creature.
