Welcome again to Masters and Minions, where I strive to give you interesting NPCs and encounters that can be placed easily into your game. In this week’s encounter your PCs are sent to investigate the claims of intelligent wolves terrorizing the roads of the Enval Forest (now known as Terrorwood).

Due to overhunting of the wolf population of the Enval Forest, it has been brought to near extinction. In order to help these wolves survive, a druidic hermit has awakened the forest’s last surviving pack. This awakened wolf pack has used its new-found intelligence to outsmart the local hunters and have begun to take revenge by attacking a trade route that goes through the Enval Forest. It has been several months since the attacks begun and locals have begun to refer to the route as Terrorwood Pass. This route has become all but abandoned by local traders and a bounty has been placed for the destruction of this wolf pack, which locals hope will allow the route to once again be safe for use.
The Terrorwood pack currently consists of around 6 terrorwood wolves.

Tactics

The wolves of Terrorwood Pass attack from the thick underbrush that grows on either side on the trade road. They tend to focus on one or two targets, usually the most impressive looking targets. They use their pack tactics to gain flanking on a tripped target. If half of the pack is slain, the remaining wolves flee back into the forest. These remaining wolves will regroup and attack again later.

Terrorwood Wolf
These wolves look much like regular wolves, but their eyes seem to gleam with a new-found intelligence.

Wolf Pack Tactics (Ex)
Whenever a terrorwood wolf trips an opponent, each terrorwood wolf that is adjacent to the tripped opponent may take a 5-foot step.
