A Bird in the Hand
Welcome again to Masters and Minions, where I strive to give you interesting NPCs and encounters that can be placed easily into your game. This week’s encounter is with a notorious tengu thief known only as the Black Raven.
The Black Raven exclusively targets travelers, stealing what he believes to be their most prized possession and leaving a single raven’s feather in its place.
In combat the Black Raven favors hit-and-run tactics and uses his ring of invisibility to sneak attack opponents. If he is surrounded he uses his cape of the mountebank to escape.
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Gifted Linguist (Ex)
Tengus gain a +4 racial bonus on Linguistics checks, and learn 2 languages each time they gain a rank in Linguistics rather than 1 language.
Swordtrained (Ex)
Tengus are trained from birth in swordplay, and as a result are automatically proficient with sword-like weapons (including bastard swords, daggers, elven curve blades, falchions, greatswords, kukris, longswords, punching daggers, rapiers, scimitars, short swords, and two-bladed swords).
